Google Toolbar in Iceweasel

If you are one like me who is stuck with an rebranded Firefox browser  like Iceweasel, some addons cannot be installed directly. This is because the addon providing sites check the browser for version and brand. If they deny addons to any non-firefox browsers, you wont be able to get that addon. There is a little trick to overcome this issue. We have to tell the website that we are browsing from firefox browser. Usually the browsers use a string – ‘useragent’ to inform websites about their make. We can alter this string to trick the websites. Its not at all difficult. All you have to do is follow theses three steps :

1. Type about:config in addressbar, enter  and accept the security alert.

2. Type useragent in the filterbox and filter the result.

3. Find the setting named general.useragent.extra.firefox , double click on it and change the value of iceweasel to firefox. Leave the version number as it is.

That’s it! Now your addons will be installed without any issues!!
