Keeping all the calculations and theory away, lets make a raw attempt to compare the speed of Google Chrome and Firefox in Web 2.0 applications like Gmail. Lets see how fast is fast enough to say faster.

The scene set for the test is a Google Mail App, similar to Gmail. Preference is given to firefox always by making clicks first on Firefox window. Right from the loading time of the browser itself, Chrome outrides Firefox by miles. Check the video below to see the action.

Results :

Application Load Time :

Mozilla Firefox : 4 secs

Google Chrome : 1 sec

Google Mail Load Time :

Mozilla Firefox : 11 secs

Google Chrome : 7 secs

Compose Mail Load Time :

Mozilla Firefox : 9 secs

Google Chrome : < 1 sec

I really liked the performance of Chrome, though first Security Flaw in Chrome is already out. But I am not yet ready to use Chrome as my primary Browser.

* Chrome could not handle Facebook, and some Open Social Applications in Orkut.

* I live on addons like ABP and greasemonkey.

* I am addicted to Google Toolbar.

* Limitations in RSS/Atom Feed suscriptions.

But Chrome is still a beta! If we can trust the words of google ,  that they believe in frequent updates, a feature rich Chrome will be out soon.

  1. I find google chrome a very useful and fast browser as comparing to internet explorer and firefox. One thing which I have noticed on my computer is that as I use internet explorer and firefox to explore web pages my windows slow down as I open more pages but using google chrome it doesn’t happened! my windows performance increased using google’s new browser CHROMEI LOVE IT!!

  2. I think Chrome aiming IE not Firefox.

  3. @ Anish : Yea.. Google still supports Firefox . The primary target is of course IE.

  4. I’m very skeptic about the results. What it seemed to me is that gmail was in chrome’s cache and not in firefox’s cache. I’ve tested both chrome n firefox myself, though chrome is both faster and lighter, the results like (compose mail loading time for firefox = 9sec) simply goes above my head. In fact after gmail loads *completely* the compose mail can be loaded even after the net is disconnected (instantaneously!). But I totally agree with the pointers mentioned later. Also I do not like the fact that Chrome uses IE’s engine in the background.I think google developers should develop their own rendering engine :)
    Kudos 2 all,
