Google Audio Indexing or GAudi is the latest addition to Google Labs after Google Chrome.Google Audio Indexing is a new technology from Google that allows users to better search and watch videos from various YouTube channels. It uses speech technology to find spoken words inside videos and lets the user jump to the right portion of the video where these words are spoken. As google says,it is a step to 

to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful

I am sure all of us wanted this service atleast once while looking for a particular speech or a tutorial. GAudi makes it possible, in future. In current stage, it indexes only the US Election Material. Since it is one of the most searched and debated content now, Google says, they will get a chance to study and tune to technology by selecting this domain. In Future GAudi will index all Youtube videos or perhaps other video services also  . 

The aim of Google Audio Indexing on Google Labs is broader and the US election is just a first step. We see it as an experiment platform where we can learn what features make the best user experience for people looking for spoken content on the Web.

GAudi works by transforming audible words in a video to text, which can be used in tried and tested Google’s search engine to assign rank based on spoken content, the metadata, the freshness.

To search for a particular word, say ‘India’ in political videos. We want to know about what US Polititian told about India related to election campaigns. As in any other google search, type in India and press “Search VIdeos”.The results of your search will appear in the left column. You can refine your search using channel filters, the active filter showing in bold. In the context of the US election, you can choose videos from the McCain channel, the Obama channel or from all YouTube political channels. Left side will show the currently selected video as shown below :

The video section shows the preview, the term we searched for, position in timeline(Yellow Marking) where the searched word is spoken,and the number of occurings. Hoverign mouse pointer over the yellow markings on the timeline will show the transcript for the given mention.Below the video , there is an option to hear the occurings directly.We can also search for other terms within the selected video.
